Syn. Nolina.Genus of about 24 species of evergreen shrubs and trees found in semi-desert and scrub from S. US to Guatemala. Beaucarnea recurvata (Nolina tuberculata) grows slowly, but with time the trunk will reach 6 ft or more and the base will be smollen like a huge bulb.The swollen bulb-like base stores water, and occasional dryness at the roots will do no harm.
Average warmth. Keep fairly cool in winter (50F or 10C). Provide as much light as possible.
Water freely from spring to autumn - sparingly in winter. Don't overwater! Misting is not necessary.
Take cuttings in spring or summer. Seeds sown in spring at 64-70F (18-21 C) germinate quickly.
