Genus of about 95 species of spreadling to erect, or scandent shrubs, sometimes epiphytic in the wild, found in scrub and forest from warm-temperate regions of E. Asia to the western Pacific, including Australia. A very attractive epiphyte that grows a very large tuber and has very attractive pendant red and yellow flowers. Prefers light shade. Highly recommended. Can be grown outside during the summer under trees.
Keep the plant warm - minimum 55 F in winter. Some direct sun is essential. Grow in well-drained, acidic potting mix.
Water moderately from spring to autumn. Water sparingly in winter. Misting is necessary.
Take semi-ripe stem cuttings in spring and summer. Use a rooting hormone and provide bottom heat. Layer in spring.
